I might overclock one day haha. I was messing with the Coolbits last night but everytime I made a change my system would lockup ;(

Ok, got my new 7900 GT CO Superclock today. One thing that I did notice was the heatsink is diff. This one actually covers the ram chips. So far so good. I decided to run some more benchmarks and see what this baby can do.

The default Core and Memory speeds are as follows:

450MHz core and 660MHz memory (1320MHz Effective).

The 7900 GT CO Superclock from EVGA runs at:

550MHz core and 790MHz memory (1580MHz Effective).

This first screenshot was 3dMark06 with no overclock of the video card or processor.

After I ran that benchmark I was happy, but really wanted to see what this baby could do. I fired up the Nvidia controll panel and in the Frequency tab I hit "detect optimal frequencys" Upon doing that I was bumped up to:

576MHz core and 849MHz memory (1698MHz Effective).

I was quite happy with the results so I figured I would run the test again.

Ok so now we have two benchmarks and a little background of the 7900 GT series cards. I then wondered how much the CPU would do for me by overclocking that a lil. I first went ahead and boosted my NOS (Non-Delay Overclocking System) Its somthing some of the Asus motherboards support that will automatically overclock a certain percentage when It feels it needs it. I started off by doing 110% or 10% overclocking. I have had problems with this setting in the past but decided to try it anyways. Upon reaching the first CPU benchmark my computer froze and would not boot. Had to disable the NOS from within the bios to boot again. Once I did that I put it down to 108% or 8% overclocking. 8% might not seem like a whole lot, but if you do the math:

2 Cores running at 2214mhz X .08 = 177MHz Per core. So now we have two cores running at 2391MHz. Which is basically as fast as the 4800 X2, Only 8 or 9MHz short :D

The system liked this setting and was able to run 3dMark all the way through.

Keep in mind, this is only one video card.

[re-edit] hmm.. in retrospect this may not be the best thing to say to someone that you're asking how to speed up your system specs...

[re-re-edit] man... I sure do use a lot of winkies... I don't want ya'll to get the wrong idea or anything.. heh.... ( )
