I fried my ram by playing Warsow all graphics settings maxed (with the new rendering etc.) @ 500fps.

So I got some new ram, went from pc6400 to pc8500, and the heat spreaders are far better than the ones on the G.sKill. It came in last night.

So hopefully I won't be frying my ram anymore.

Yeah, what I think happened was Nick (mezzfit) had come over to test some of his "sli" ram and I know I changed the timings and mhz back, but I'm thinking I forgot to put the memvoltage back down to what it was supposed to be for my sticks. :?

oops

yes, 680i

the 680i supports pc8500 ram? have you noticed any performance increase from using the faster ram?

Gotta hate when that happens :(.

Like SC asked, did you do some MemTest to see what the gains were ?

Windows loads faster, games load faster, that's about it. And yes Supercat, it detected the correct speed and timings right off the bat. It supports up to 1200mhz for EPP capable ram. Mine runs at that speed too, I've discovered, but I'm running it at 1066 instead. After the last set I'm not taking any chances.

focus, what is your boot time (approx) with the old ram versus now? also, have you done any boot optimization on your rig aside from the memory change? i know right now my boot is at about 55 seconds from push of the button to fully operating desktop.

tbh I couldn't tell ya. It's definitely faster, but I never timed it of course, and I can't exactly test it with the old ram, either. lol

fair enough. i'm just wondering how much difference it has quantitatively made cause i'm an engineer and a dork. XD

but, if you haven't done any boot optimization i would highly suggest you do.
