Want to overclock some more

Post by CaMeL »

ok. i am totally fan cooled. Ultra Case. XFX 630i 7150 Board. I have overclocked the 2.4 q6600 in it to 2.87 without adjusting voltage. All i have changed is the FSB and it auto adjusted everything from there. Voltage makes me a bit squimish. But i wanna do it safely. I think i have all the tools necessary to monitor and the following is my bios setup:

Cell Menu
Current CPU Frequency 2.87Ghz (318x9)
Current FSB Frequency 1275Mhz
Current DRAM Frequency 797Mhz

Intel EIST: Disabled
System Clock Mode: Linked
-FSB Clock (Mhz): 1275
Adjust CPU Ratio: 9

Adjust PCIe Frequency: 100
Auto Disabled DIMM/PCI Frequency: Enabled
Adjust DDR Voltage (V): 1.90
Ajust MB Voltage: 1.55 (Not adjustable)
Spread Spectrum: Enabled

Cell Menu Advanced DRAM Configuration

Memory Timings: Auto
tCL (CAS Latency): Auto
tRCD: Auto
tRP: Auto
tRAS: Auto
Command Per Clock (CMD): Auto
tRRD: Auto
tRC: Auto
tWR: Auto
tWTR: Auto

H/W Monitor
Fan 1 Mode Setting: Full Mode On
CPU Temp: 31C/87F
System Temp: 34C/90F
CPU FAN Speed: 2528 RPM
CPU VCore: 1.328V
3.3V: 3.024V
5V: 5.107V
12V: 12.160V
5V SB: 5.160V

Will said he got his q6600 up to 3.1

Any help would be much appreciated.

use orthos or prime95 multi instance to determine what your cpu load temps are. This will be the deciding factor on how much more voltage you can put on your cpu, and in turn, determine how much higher you can go with the frequency.

in what increments should i adjust the voltage and which voltage should i adjust? If applicable, what frequencies do i adjust and in what increments?

Thanks focus u da man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on how your motherboard lists the voltage control

the frequencies I was referring to are the FSB speeds. How were you overclocking it before?

I will NEVER overclock for I'm scared with my pennies. Jago, Crush & Focus could give you a good pop in that category. I can suggest work your overclocking slowly and keep it at a stable range with good temps.

First I will not claim to be a pro in overclocking but I do know a thing or two.

1. You will get a higher overclock if you unlink your clock speed and memory because either one will limit the other.

2. You will not need to up your cpu voltage until its unstable at a said name speed. Good boards will have small increments of .25 of a volt. (maybe less)

3. More voltage = more heat generated = more risk.

4. Overclocking = more head = more risk.

5. Two exactly identical proc's can have totally diff overclocking potential.

What kind of memory are you using and what are the timings?

You might have to adjust the timings and or speed and voltage of that also.

I am only adjusting the FSB because its linked. I dont know how to do anything other than that.

Another important factor of your memory are the timings. For instance I'm running the Older DDR 184 pin memory PC3200 which is running at 400 mhz dual channel. My timings are very tight: 2.5/3/2/5 and I have it overclocked to 216mhz which would give me an effective clock of 432mhz. If I overclock anymore I have to loosen my timings a little bit more to keep it stable. At that point its really counter productive.

For some reason I have big issues when I unlink my memory and bus so my proc is overclocked from 2.200mhz to 2.376mhz. I have thought about updating my bios to solve that issue but I'm pretty close to doing a whole system overhaul so im not really worried.

From the sound of it you have gotten a great OC from your proc thus far. I would be intrested to find out how far you can push it. What MB do you have?

like previously stated, only adjust voltages once the system becomes unstable and then at that point adjust by the smallest increment the motherboard allows.
better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and erase all doubt.

i got it to 3.6ghz on air camel. idle at 40C and full load around 55C. it was nice man. but dont overclock past 3.GHZ or else you got the money to keep upgrading and replacing.

That reminds me, I know you've got CPU-Z camel, what stepping does your q6600 have? If it's not g0 then it's not going to get the same speeds.
