Complete Revamp Help

Post by Kumori »

Otay.

Option 1:

I have an eMachine T6540 right now. It's a gaming version, so the onboard graphics is a little nicer and I have 1gb of ram.

Well, it's just not cutting it anymore.

Here's the current Specs that I'm looking to upgrade
  • Processor:
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core 3800+ 2.0GHz

    Vid Card:
    ATI Radeon x200. I think it's 128m? (integrated)
With a PCI Express port available

    Ram:
    1gb DDR2 Expandable to 2gb v_v
I'm looking for some upgrades, as one would imagine.

Ram I can obviously find for myself, I just need 2 1gb sticks.

I don't know much about what my mobo can handle, and here's my specs on emachines offical site.

http://www.emachines.com/products/produ ... prod=T6540

Where should I start looking for a new processor / new video card? I'm not looking at spending any much more then 250. If someone really believes I should look at something that expands out of that price range, by all means post it.

If you think I could use a new mobo, for long time expansion go ahead and suggest one if you feel to it. I'm going to need a new mobo in the next 2-3 years anyway. 2gb won't cut it for too long.

Option 2:

Buying a newer computer that I can revamp from there. I was looking at the:

I'm not looking at anything more then like 650 there.

Trying to keep things a little cheap here, so bear with me if you could.

Well, what I'm saying is I'm not planning on spending too much money now, because I don't have that much.

If you think my best bet is making a new one from scratch, it'd be nice if someone could help me out. Keep in mind actual production would be a while because funds are low so I can't just buy all the parts now. I have to purchase in chunks.

If I'm going to build a new computer [which might be my best bet, seeing the current technologic expansions] I'm going to need some help with it. FTR I'm not too interested in DDR3 as of now, DDR2 works just fine. I won't need anything more then like 8gb of ram to NEED DDR3.

Alright, I guess that's my best bet. I wanted to for two reason, A.) it's a lot nicer then my case and B.) 2gb minimum ram isn't going to cut it in 5 years.

Unless someone wants to suggest something, in about a month I'm purchasing the iBuyPower

I vote the same way. EMachines aren't the best or the worst, but they severly limit what you can do to them. Any kind of standalone MB will allow you much better flexibillity. Plus (unless you buy the super cheap) you can add as your money comes in.

Alright, well, that's final then. I'm saving up for the iBuypower. When I purchase it and start looking into some upgrades, I'll bump up the thread and let ya know. Maybe you guys can help me look at some upgrades to it. Even though it is a pretty solid comp to boot, I'm sure there will be decent upgrades within the next month.
