Early look at new menus in EMZ

Post by simulation »

Hi guys.

Not been around for a while and I'm surprised to see that M|ke hasn't mentioned this, but I've put up some screenshots of the new menu system that you'll find in the next release of EMZ - codename "Version 1.3" ;)

http://www.the-emz.com/wip/

No firm dates, as usual - real life dictating pace at the moment.

The "simple lighting" on the gfx options is like the "ambient/vertex" stuff that xbm/max have in Q4. Seems to give a nice FPS boost in places like Tomiko where there is heavy lighting.

I like it very much. Good things come to those of us, hehe, who wait.

Funny thing is, and I'll just mention it here. Huge props. out to everyone over at the EMZ camp, for all the hard work, updates, and a WORKING product. I have had literally no issues with any of the versions, and I have to say far less problems, then ANY of the Quake 4 patches, or upgrades that have been released. I'd rather wait, and have something good. Keep up the good work, and I am obviously incorportating some solid EMZ props. in the new website.

Think I've already told you - but I've been in Scotland for the week - my niece's wedding.

New D3 version progressing slowly - menu work is painful to do sometimes, especially hacking the server browser around. But, once its all done it will be sweet - and pretty easily ported to "some other" id title whose name escapes me ;)

Actually, on that subject, I'm not going to bust a gut on Q4 until at least the official 1.3 patch is done. No point working on a whole load of stuff only to have to rip it out/modify it in some way. Let the dust settle and the "stable" version emerge. But whatever new menu features we put into D3 can go into Q4 without much effort (oh, how I'll live to regret those words).

Dude. Question about lighting. Can you enable shadows in game while disabling PLAYER SHADOWS. You know add to the realism without excess taxing of hardware. Shadows off is to bland, shadows on I lose about 5-10 FPS. I'm sure in between could be nice. Other than that I am staunchly sitting by my box until this comes out! great work!

Don't know if disabling just player shadows would make a huge FPS difference - have to give it a try I guess.

If you've played Doom3 online and don't know what EMZ is then you've been living under a rock. lol
