Won't happen anytime soon as these sorts of propositions usually take ages to pass in the US and in Canada. Doesn't make much sense as the US tourism industry is finally starting to turn around again. So small that it won't really impact individuals that much.. just seems like a lame cash grab.

No they don't. The Canadian government did not really want passports but the Americans did. If you live in Maine you can come over here with just a photo ID

Yes TG, they are thinking about upgrading our "National security" by making anyone who comes here to have a passport. lol.

I have no issues needing a passport to go anywhere when crossing borders, slightly additional costs, and REAL security as well. As long as I can still hop the border, snag my Paradigm Studio speakers, and scoot back over the border, duty free, I'll be happy.

Americans DO need a passport to get into Canada. I travel to Canada around 30 times a year. It went into effect about 2 years ago. If you travel into Canada w/o a passport, you cannot get back into the States.

Like Andy said ^^.

Bottom line: Since June 2009, everyone from every country arriving in Canada by air, land and sea has needed a passport or equivalent travel document. (Some exceptions apply to children's passport requirements). Besides an up-to-date passport, visitors may instead have an equivalent travel document, such as a NEXUS Card.
