Ok, so crush picks up a washer and dryer for $50. These are both older GE models and I have no experiance with the inner workings of these things. The washer was basically up and running. All I had to do was replace one of the "Dampining Straps" within the unit. I picked one up at a appliance parts store for $6. And now I have a working washer. The dryer is a diff story. It would turn, blow, etc but no heat. So the first thing that comes to mind would be the Heating element right? Which was no biggie, I have heard that heating elements are not that expensive. So, I start to take my dryer apart this evening. Turns out that is no other way to actually get to the heating element unless you basically take the whole unit apart.

So here I am with tired hands and a dryer that is basically fully apart. I finally found the heating element. It actually looks like I can stretch the element out a little bit and make the connection again which would most likely make it work again.

What do you guys think? Anybody ever do this before? Should I buy a new heating element for $20 or should I make due with this and just rig it?

I am also thinking on sanding and painting the dryer also, pistol I need a concept! hehe.

Assuming that is just resistance wire, it should still be plenty able to bend. As long as you don't crease or damage the wire in any way, it should be able to withstand normal operating conditions while stretched.

So, basically, I would try that first and power it for a normal load cycle before loading clothes just to see if it works. Do this atleast 2 times and check the wear on the wires. If you see nothing, it should be fine.

Otherwise, you just wasted a few minutes, some solder, and have to go out and get a replacement. Then again I'm a cheap do-it-yourself college kid...so it's your call.

A good cleaning wouldn't hurt with all that dust either haha.

Hmmm, tough call for me here. Hehhe. Love to fix stuff and not payout to the man for a new one, when not nec. Because it's only 20.00 for a new one, and the high likelyhood, that indeed, it IS acting like a resistor or sorts, and the fact the by shortening it, or stretching it, you could change the resistance value, and possibly incure GREATER current flow than before, I vote for dropping 20 bucks on a new replacement, throuroughly cleaning it, and then testing it.

Ok, bout to go to home depot to see if they have a connector I need. If they do than I can get this working again without having to buy a new element and could save some money. Ill let you guys know of my progress.

Also going to clean out the inside. Not dust, but lint rather all in the insides of this thing

FIRE HAZARD! hehe.

Ok, its all cleaned out now. Used my Kirby G4 and pwned the sh** out of that lint. If I can find the right connector ill use the same element. I have a feeling all that lint buildup was the cause of the element going out. Another update comming soon.

Ok well instead of waiting for the part to come in, I went to the local appliance parts depot and bought the Heating Element for 37 bucks including tax. Im about to take the old one off and restring the new one. Wish me luck!

Ok dryer is now officially fixed. Heating wet clothes as we speak. I was almost going to clapse on the floor earlier when I first turned it on I had smoke comming out from the inside but I guess that is normal after you put a new element in. Only smoked for first couple seconds. But not its fine. Damn im tired

dude. on a serious note. I have never seen anyone p1mp out their washer and dryer. man. Now I have to come up with a few ideas here. hmm
maybe you could put an eXg. logo on em. or maybe a saying like. eXg. pwning cloth3s since 2003 or something. Either way. it would be badd ass to grab a few cans of paint, and a can of clear and spray the crap outa em witha few stenciled drawings.
