Doom 3 IS dead. No matter which way you try to twist and turn it. Doesn't mean you can't have a small tourneys, but I'm sorry - it's dead.

If D3 was dead then to me that would mean that no one would play it anymore.. people wouldn't waste money on servers... and there wouldnt' even be people on those servers that were there in teh first place...there also wouldn't be people putting in massive hours of time and labor to create Mods for an allready Dead Game.

So with this in mind...

here are questions that those of you who think this game is dead.??

1. How come there are soo many people playing?

2. How come there are many servers ? with people playing in them ?

3. How come then that Soo many eXg. players, and also others still play?

4. How come there have been people wanting tournaments left and right ?

5. How come people have to come and say that its dead all the time ? and yet there is always a wave of players taht are arguing this?

6. How come a PRO clan such as .50 calibre, as well as what I consider us I believe we are PRO in Doom3 are willing to put up MONEY! prizes, and other things, such as tiem and effort to organize and put up Doom3 tourneys?

7. How come after a few posts teh GGL is going to reconsider a Doom 3 ladder, and possibly tournaments. ??

8. How come Current Professional players, in Q3, or Q4 have said taht Doom3 never had a really full chance to get going and see what kind of tournament game it could be with the right mods?

9. There are people that chime in every tiem a post coems up about Doom 3 and they say blah blah its dead stop playing... it sucks move on .... If it s dead why are you worrying about it? and second, why do posts keep showing up?

10. The bottom line is that Doom 3 is not dead, its community I believe lied dormant for a while with newer games that came out because people wanted to try those games, and see how they matched up. Realizeing that THOSE games are now DEAD< and are not going to be used for further competitive play they decided to report back to what was a growing community, and an even better game now that a few new maps have been made, and mods comeout to further the potential of an allready unique tournament game...


Ps. sorry to come of strong.. but its just getting annoying about how the game is dead and how it sucks this that and the other thing. I know Q3 is hopping cause of pro tourneys. however I wouldn't count this game out... do the reasearch please before you post.

1. Compared to almost any other online game, doom has a very very low population. There's maybe 30 or so on at a time, compare it to games like css, bf2, q3, cs1.6, cod etc. that have a thousand easily.

2. Most servers are often empty...some of oftenly full like ours with 8 people, but always the same people you know. Most servers don't have people in them.

3. We make up like 1/3 of the doom community, and we are mainly a doom clan, so that's why we play it. Some others play...not many.

4. "people" could mean many different things. If you threw EVERY single online gamer into one forum, people wouldn't want a doom tourney. On a doom clans forum, one of the very few, people want a tourney because we like the game afterall.

5. Because it is dead and someone says it's active.

6. You would have to ask them.

7. Because we got over half the doom community to post up because we are all friends. I honestly think there's no harm in a GGL ladder, but there are very few games they DON'T have a ladder for, and I don't think many people will stick to the commitment of playing with it based upon previous attempts where 90% of the ladder was inactive and matt was in first for the longest time with like 2 matches played...

8. Of course doom3 has potential, it's a good game...it has a good mod. That doesn't mean ebcause a game is good that it's active, it's a good dead game.

9. I have never said doom sucked, it's a good game. People always post up saying doom3 is a very active game, why would they bother if they knew that it was? That can be thrown either way, why did I post? because I believe that it's dead. I'm not worried at all what other people think. Posts keep shwoing up because we are a doom3 clan.

10. If infact professional players all decided they didn't like Q4 and Q3 and came back to doom, it would THEN be considered active. That hasn't happened, and there's solid reasons why players would want to do this, and it is currently a dead game.

It's a good game, no doubt. I wouldn't count it as being "dead", but I will say that it's definately not "alive and kicking" either. It depends on your definition of dead though. Comparitively, I would have to agree that the game is dead, but there are still some dedicated people willing to play. Then again, I could also argue that no game can really be considered "dead" because there will almost always be at least a few people playing almost any game.

Relatively speaking, doom, quake (3 and 4), Painkiller etc. All of cpl's 1v1 games would not be what people consider lively games, as they have a very small population when compared to a game like CS or BF2.

U know u guys got me thinking about some of the comments I made... Now we have gone over and over teh whole Q3 thing Sukki and I think you are right on that one. there are far more people playing Q3 than Doom 3 for sure. and there are KNOWN pro players playing and competing in Q4 as well. and in Q3. it just so happend that Doom3 was the way it was for soo long and players yes didn't revert back... I believe mostly becasue those players aren't going where the most fun games are tehy are going where the money is... but either way I get what you guys are saying... I think I had the most problem with hearing tht it was dead.... Dead to me means its like the old school NIntendo. no one at all plays it at all... but yet doom3 has a strong following... its senseless to dispute over it really. both sides have a good vaild point. to be honest the only game out right now that could compete with it as far as the type of gameplay tourney style we are talking about would have to be Q3 or Q4. Q3 more I believe. so I guess there needs to be a new game that will come out to replace both... hmm... I do believe there is a chance for a market for this game I bet there will be a nitch of people that will keep it alive.

i also think players play q3 to practice for q4 which is where the money is .as most fps tourneys are quake 4

Actually, this is no longer true, after CPL reverted to q3 everyone has been going back to that and from about the end of the summer and to the present most leagues are moving back towards q3. After this year's season plays out, it's very unlikely that there will be very much left for Q4.

1v1 Competitively speaking, q3 is the way to go right now. That doesn't mean that we can't have small online events like this for other games like doom as well though. For those who are passionate about the game, and I know there are still quite a few, I think this is a great opportunity.

Ok, Doom 3 dead? no, but it lacks community. Quake 4 is pretty low too and that game still has tourneys. Painkiller WHILE it was a cpl game, was in fact dead. CPL is not the issue here, because Quake 3 has been out for what 7 years? Why make it a CPL game? Large community, and the winners will be the same people who played the game for those 6-7 years. You will not see a clamp or rocketboy, for example, win these events because they lack experience.

The reason behind this tourney is to broaden the Doom3 community, and possibly host a string of Doom3 tourneys to keep it alive.

Now about the tourney maps exg. Frag... Tell me which maps you've been looking into. Oh, and 15 Minute 0 Frag limit is standard.

October 20, gives everybody plenty of time to fork up 10 Dollars. Sign up closes October 19th. I mean, how hard can that be? It just creates a prize pool which in some people's eyes... is an awesome bonus.

Agreed, we have to stop debating Weather Doom 3 is alive or dead and do something about it. Advertise to people get the word out. Hold Tourneys, and events etc.
The first qcon had like 18 people and now its over 1000 people! Spred the word and have fun. Constant Dramma, and bitching will get us know where.
