longitudinal recording is soon a thing of the past. We are almost at the limit of around 120 GB/In Squared. Time for somthing new. Stand those bits up gentlement! Perpendicular is looking at 10X more areal density then current Longitudinal recording today.

LOL funny video. It IS about time. They can only realisticly increase the density soo much. Besides the size reduction, I'm curious to see real world speed benefits, as obviously the read/write won't have to move as much.

Well longitudal recording has been the standard for the past 50 years. And the only thing we have been doing is shrinking the bits. We are basically at the point where superparamagnetic effect will come into play. Time for upgrades :lol:
