making the most of it

Since I don't have to pay any rent or utilities this month due to my house catching fire, I'm thinking I should spend that on an 8800GTX.

Your thoughts?

NOOOoooo WAIT!!!!
January PCIe 2 comes out It is 2x faster then PCI.
However Bioshock is coming out in 6 days and you might want to upgrade to pull some uber graphics. The 8800GTS i have is awesome, and I wish i spent it on a GTX.
You could also get 2 GTS for close to the same price as a GTX.

Neither BioShock nor Crysis actually require DX10. I've been doing my homework on that whole issue.
I've also just bought a motherboard, and I don't give a rats ass, i'm not buying another for a long time.

Also, My card outperforms your card on anything that isn't directly optimized for unified shading. As was evidenced when I was beta testing Monsoon D3 with you.

But I appreciate the input!! =)
Also, I don't like SLi, I've done SLi before and it's great for benchmarks, but not great for multiplayer speed games.

Well, my personal preference when any of my guys has extra money, is, to, well send it to ME !!!!!!! YaaaaaaaaaaY.

In the absence of that, the 88 won't let you down. Just take a look at what you're running now, what issues you may have, vs. the cost of the upgrade. I don't know the date of the next product cycle, but if you can wait till after the next one, you will save cash-o-la.

Normally I'm the world's biggest advocate of not going overboard on these things, but the thing is , I've still got the ASUS A8N SLI deluxe, 4000+ AMD 64, and 2 gigs of DDR sitting in a cabinet back at the house, and already have a couple of gaming mice, keyboards, monitors, even headsets.
So, I'll get a new PSU for this rig, I'm thinking 850 watt... a hard drive, and a video card. Then I'll have two totally decent gaming rigs. So I can play with Elyse more, too.
And I don't see the point in getting a budget card for the other machine while on the verge of DX10 games and this setup all around.

So, I'm not getting it to splurge. On the contrary, I'm getting it to NOT waste the other mobo/cpu/mem combo that's just collecting dust.

i'd go ATI personally there 2900XT is alot faster and cheaper and the 2900XT is also 1gb card too running at 743mhz/2200mhz. 2900XT 512mb is same speeds has 8800GTX and 8800utral is pointless just an Overclock 8800GTX

I guess if you're buying a new card now anyway, you may as well go with something that will last you a fair bit then.

Hey! don't get me wrong! I have a lot of pride in my card! It pwns all but the 640 and 768's of the new g80 series of cards!
I just want to get that other motherboard put to use, and don't see the point in NOT getting one.

I have a GTX, and let me give you a little analogy here.
7600 = little cat drinking milk from the bowl
8800GTX = freekin huge lion chasing a freeking antelope  :D

Oh yeah, i'm totally stoked about getting an 8800GTX. I am.

Also, i don't have a 7600. i have a 512 7950 GT KO.

And i don't use anti-aliasing. And really, i have the graphics fairly low in any multiplayer game I play. So the only real reason is to prep for games that actually require DX10.
