Want to Upgrade

Post by eXg. Ersatz »

So here is what I am running,

Mobo - Abit Socket 939 UL8 http://www.uabit.com/index.php?option=c ... &model=290

Processor - AMD Athlon 3500+ 2.24 Ghz

Ram - 1 gig

Sound - Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer

Video - Radeon x800 XT PE.

So that is what I am running, I would like to upgrade my video to the 8800 GTX but I dont have PCI-e only AGP, so that would require me to get a new mobo beacuse I cant find a good mobo that has PCI-e with 939 socket on it. So I would have to get a new mobo which would require me to get a new processor. So I am Proablly looking at spending close to what 800 to 1k?

Getting a new motherboard would require new RAM too, but thankfull DDR2 is cheap these days. I probably wouldn't get an 8800GTX, as they are pretty much EOL'd, but rather an 8800GT or 8800GTS 512mb (G92).

Depends what chipset you want, and if you plan to overclock. I've got a Biostar P35 chipset which is pret ty good for the price and also over clocks well for the price. (e4300 up to ~2.7ghz). I've heard a lot of good things about the DFI Blood Iron, which would actually probably be the best "bang-for your buck" board. However, remember that Intel chipsets, while they generally have less problems then Nvidia chipsets do not support SLI, only crossfire.
