Windows 7 and Quake 4

Post by Snowy »

Hi there,
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I'm having trouble installing Quake 4. I get a "library not registered" error at the end of the install. Upon then installing the 1.4.2 update and launching the game I get prompted for my CD key, which I enter. Then it tells me it's invalid.
Here's what I've tried to get the game to install correctly
  • Normal install (double click .exe)
  • Run as administrator (both the game and the patch)
  • Run the setup in XP SP3 compatibility mode
  • Run the setup in XP SP3 compatibility mode and as administrator
Every time I get the "library not registered" and can't validate my cd key.
This is a genuine copy of Quake 4, although I'm not running it off the disc (as previous suggestions have said to run it as administrator) But it fails every time.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

you must do it this way when installing. When running the setup, go to Computer, navigate to your cd drive, find the setup.exe and right click run as administrator.

I know you said you ran as administrator, but did you run the setup.exe as administrator?

if not, uninstall and reinstall like that.

Yes I tried that. Ran the .exe as admin.
