Strafing is still there. They made it more like quakeworld and cpma, a lot quicker just like everyone has always wanted. This is what cpl and all of the competitive players have wanted since the beginning, but cpl already went back to q3, and almost everyone who was waiting for this has already boxed their q4. Too little to late is what it's looking like and all those people new to the quake series who are still playing q4 have gotten used to it's slower pace. In the end, I think most of the remaining q4 community are going to be dissapointed with it, and all of the competitive players who have wanted this just won't care anymore and they'll stick to q3. The new guns, maps and gametype may add onto the life of the game a little bit, but I don't think any of it is going to last long.
I'm personally sitting on the fence right now. I've never really played cpma, quakeworld or painkiller for very long, but I've always preferred the faster pace, and it was what I was expecting at the release of q4. On the other hand, I think I've gotten used to the slower pace of q4. If this isn't too late and it brings cpl back to q4, I'd be all for it, but I have a feeling that's not going to be the case. UT 2007 isn't too far away, so hopefully that will be far more pre-built for competition than q4 was.
And the only reason the rockets got buffed is because everyone was complaining that they were useless in comparison to the rail and lightning gun, and all through the past wsvg events it's almost always been rail and lightning accuracy that's caused players to come out on top.

LoL Pun, i was joking hahaeXg. Pun1sher wrote:Wait a minute, what, strafing gone ?? LOL. Someone give me the condensed version, I will DEF. have to try this tonight. Anyone who's got it, have any info, feedback, complaints, etc.
PuN
The strafe is still there and as a matter of fact it will naver be taken out of the game. I was just being shocked at focus reply as it looked to me as someone who doesn't really knmow what strafe is lol (no offence).
Review? Yes, i played it and it;s very good, as a matter of fact much better than i expected. Many on esreality are saying that they like the patch and it might save the game, at least for the time being.
ladies and gentlemen, can you please face reality and stop playing a game that is going NOWHERE! Seriously though, start focusing on upcoming games... when cpl goes backwards to pick a game nearly of 7 years of age(q3 cpma) over the latest and supposedly the greatest Q4, doesn't that tell you something?? Guess I'm just blowing smoke, but IMO Q4 is a dead crowd
sad to say due to the fact it was so highly anticipated to be a GREAT GAME!

The accel i smuch better than the way it was in 1.2.f0cus wrote:
Well, you can do the movement of strafing. It doesn't actually slow you down, like it does in CS:S and HL2DM, but it doesn't make you any faster either. You can zig zag or not zig zag, that's about the extent of it.
Exactly and this is the reason the speed has been increased. The the movement you are reffering will always be there. Now it has been speeded up because the old one was broken. Quake 4 has different psyhics from quake 3 and it requires more speed in order to feel right. This will also exclude the floating feeling.f0cus wrote: Movement is the best part of id games over the competition. It's what they had going for them the most. Everything else has come up with it's own gimicks, and they're all great, but Quake's thing was the movement.
The 1.3 patch is build from what the community recommended. Simply said, WE asked for these things to be applied.f0cus wrote: Now the rocket launcher is just as fast as it is in doom 3, which of course means it's now out of balance with all of the other weapons.
In contrast (and i'm telling you, a quake player will agree) the weapons are now much more balanced than before. Rockets are faster to balance the domination of other weapons.
And for a short notice, the nailgun's damage has been increased

Nope. The damage hasn't been touched...f0cus wrote: the rocket launcher is stronger AND faster
The speed has been increased...
Projectile size is now lower...
and the knockback higher.
Damage is the same

well.. hmm. rockets faster.. ok.. you're making me drool. That... to me.. was one of the game's biggest upsets.. I also didn't like the floating feeling... wait? did you say... faster movement? I think I popped a boner. Is this the true q4? I think i'll dl it now and give you my opinion AFTER I try it.
