100+ acre Fire!!!!
Hope they get the fire out soon, really soon...
The east coast is starting to look like the west coast with the fires.... We should send you our guys from out here in CA, they could have it out in no time at all.
Out here on the west coast, they are use to batteling fires like that, but worse. It would be a piece of cake for them to put out. They have no moutains ranges to climb around, no extreamly high winds, no tumble weeds to start new fires, no fire devils to move the fire in another area. yup I think that would be a good plan. But if I was you, I'd pack everything important up and move it some where safe. After watching the video it looks like they are having a really hard time with it.
Our biggest fire out here was back in 2004, 05 I believe 60,000 + acres burned, it was the whole side of 2 mountains from bottom to top(7,000ft) I could see the flames on the top of the mountains from my house. Then after the fire hit the peak of the mountain, the wind shifted towards us and all the fire fighters were on the other side of the moutain and would of take them 4 hrs to get to this side of it. But we got lucky, mother nature decided that she was going to make it rain, then give it a blizzard over night. It was the first time it snowed for 36hrs straight here in the desert. Needless to say, that put the fire out. Otherwise, the whole valley was screwed. But at the same time we had 5 other hudge fires burning thoughout the southland.
So my heart goes out to everyone on the east coast. I know how scarey it can be. Make sure you water down the house really good and everything around it if the fire gets too close. It does help.

OK well the smoke is still burning just as much, but they have reopened the main roads and stopped evacuating last night at 8:30. The fire has now burned around 13,500 acres. We left last night and headed north just to be safe being some homes 1/2 mile down the road were near and could see flames. It came really close to one of my friends houses. It seems like they are getting it under control and the rain tonight can only help. We are safe at home now, but it still looks like a bomb went off... Ill keep you updated, heres some more photos a friend of mine took farther away then me.
Last Night

This morning I drove out. to where they were doing controlled burns to try and stop the fire. Here are some shots. In the first one my house is 1/2 mile behind me top the right. Its hard to breath on the road which is covered with heavy smoke, and ash is falling from sky.

Man, we DO need some rain tonight, and they ARE calling for some HEAVY Stuff, so let's hope that happens. I was in Jersey today, not on the coast, but Pensville, and everyone is pretty into what is going on, even down there, as a reminder of what can indeed happen. Right now, 4:38 pm, EST, it's windy as hell, and that just makes it worse, but no rain yet.

Ok looks like it is finally under control, we stayed with friends over night up north and had a party W00t! Pizza and cheese steak, with maybe a beer.
We got home around 8:30 and allroads are opened up again and things ate getting back to normal. Im going to drive out to where it was later and see if its as bas as people are saying.
Here are some pics of us evacuating. You know its bad when a guy drives by with a loud speaker, "PLEASE ABANDON YOUR HOMES!!!!" And again there was ash falling from the sky into my lawn.

Wobm Update wrote:THE WILDFIRE IS DECLARED 70 PERCENT CONTAINED AS OF 9:30 LAST NIGHT AND ALL RESIDENTS ARE BEING ALLOWED TO RETURN HOME INCLUDING MOBILE HOME PARK RESIDENTS.
ALL ROADS THROUGH THE AREA INCLUDING ROUTES 72, 539 AND THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY ARE NOW OPEN.
TWO FIRE FIGHTERS SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES WHILE BATTLING THE BLAZE. THE FIRE DESTROYED FIVE HOMES IN TWO SENIOR CITIZEN TRAILER PARKS IN BARNEGAT. BURT PLANTE WITH THE STATE FOREST FIRE SERVICE SAYS A WALL OF FLAMES AT LEAST 80 FEET HIGHT THREATENED TO DESTROY ONE OF THOSE DEVELOPMENTS ENTIRELY.
HE CREDITS FIREFIGHTERS WITH SAVING ALL BUT TWO OF THE HOMES AT THE BRIGHTON AT BARNEGAT DEVELOPMENT.
ABOUT 6,000 PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED FROM 2,500 HOMES AT THE HEIGHT OF THE WILD FIRE--- MANY ARE SENIOR CITIZENS WHO HAD LITTLE CHOICE BUT TO SLEEP ON COTS IN A NEARBY HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM.

Ok well I'm glad it wasn't that bad, because mostly it was just forest burning. The military has taken full responsibility stating that an f-16 flare had caused the fire. There are a few destroyed buildings but the majority are just damaged. Driving along the main road all you see is black brush and trees all the way into the woods, and at one point the fire jumped the road, heading to my town, but it was put out. While driving around I got these pictures from a local Retirement home.

Hey man, glad to hear you're ok. You must be in an area of the state I haven't seen... the part I went through has no trees, or anything at all, to burn. It was all cement, weeds, and graveyards. In fact, from the top floor of our hotel, you could see a shop, and it was literally surrounded by graveyards.
