2012 fact or fiction!

Audiance: Believers and non believers of 2012.
Purpose: To get behind the real truth of 2012 if possible.


2012 is a world wide phenomenon that is constantly talked about. The truth has always and will always remain a mystery. Why? Because no matter what, we cannot be completely sure of the future. There are many signs of this upcoming “doomsday” but how accurate is it really? The Mayans believed that the earth, “as we know it”, was going to come to an end on December 21, 2012.There are many facts that go to support this. December 21 2012 is the exact same date as the Winter Solstice which occurs at 11:11 UT, this is when our Earth will be in galactic alignment with the black hole at the center of our galaxy. Timewave Zero drops off of the Singularity of Novelty scale on 12/21/2012. Events that are solar related, such as the solar maximum, sunspot activity, and solar pole reversals are thought to happen in 2012. These are all calculated, verifiable facts. There are many predictions to the disastrous day, may they be, spiritual, scientific, religion related, or astronomical, something is sure to change the Earth as we know it that day. It may be a new beginning or the end.

Nostradamus, the French Christian Jew who lived in France in the 16th century, made many accurate forecasts. All of these predictions lead up to 2012. He prophesized that the Slavs will “change their prince” and “raise an army in the mountains,” meaning the guerilla war. He made predictions about new alliances, rise and falls of important leaders, the outcomes and starts of wars, times of peace and times of hatred, the use of electricity, the massacre of millions of Jews, world attacks, and the rise and fall of regions. In my research I found a quote that was from Nostradamus, it read, “In the year of the new century and nine months, from the sky will come a great king of terror. The sky will burn at 45 degrees… fire approaches the great new city… there will be thunder… The third big war will begin when the city is burning.” (See: Nostradamus predictions) This is describing the attack on the World Trade Centers in 2001, how could he see this coming? If someone like this can make predictions like this, only for them to come true in the future, could the Mayans have been right about “Doomsday” or “the beginning of a new time”?

The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012, however the Mayans never claimed that the world was ending, the calendar just simply stopped. The controversy to this is the fact that it ends on a very odd date. This date is odd because it is a date very significant to our universes cycle. This date marks the 5, 125 year period that our universe goes through. One galactic day of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years. The first stage of this cycle was thought to be the “galactic morning”, describing the time when our sun was coming out of the darkness and into the light. The second stage of this cycle is the “mid-day”, this is when our solar system is closest to the central light. The third stage is the “afternoon” or when our solar system begins to come out of the light. The fourth stage is the “late night” when the sun has entered it’s furthest cycle from the light. The fifth cycle (the on that we are coming out of) is called the “night before dawn” when our solar system is in its last cycle of darkness before starting again. People connect this information to the calendar and “predict” that the world will end on this day. The calendar said that in 1999 we will begin to leave the 5th cycle. They said that when this starts happening the sun will start emitting rays so intense that the whole universe will brighten. At the end of the 5, 125 year period we will experience a solar flare that marks the end of one period and the beginning of the next. The Mayans believed that we hold our own fate in our hands. This date could be the start to a time of destruction, hate, and fear, or it could be the start of the “Golden age”; an age where peace is present throughout the world. They say if we stop the war, we stop destroying our atmosphere and doing all the harmful things to our planet we will enter the golden age. They also say that if we can’t see eye-to-eye we will end up destroying life as we know it. If we end life as we know it we will come back to a “Time of no time”. They believe this to be a rebirth of consciousness. Every year during the spring and fall of equinox the shadow of the sun “slithers” down the side of the pyramid known as the Temple of Kukulkán. I say slithers because it moves down this temple in the form of a snake. The Maya believed that this represented Kukulkán (the Plumed Serpent) descending from heaven with a message that the planting or harvesting season has arrived. Some people say this is believed to be one of the many warning signs left by the Mayan culture. As this “serpent” descends from the sky to the ground, it is thought that it is passing through to the underworld. “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” (Daniel Pinchbeck). The real question is, if they could predict everything about our future, how come they could not predict the ending of theirs?
The Hindus believe a similar theory. They believe that the world works in ages, the iron the bronze the silver and the gold, the iron is what we are in now, it is a very hard age, where man is overwhelmed with the technology and focuses more on machinery. They believe that even though this is a hard age, it will eventually come to the end, only to start a new age, The Golden age. The earth will change as we know it, it will transform, and from the ashes of this transformation will come to a new beginning, the seeds left behind will start a new era.
Scientifically speaking, scientists believe that this is indeed the end to one stage and the beginning to another. The increase of natural disasters over recent years is worrying scientists greatly. No one knows quiet what the outcome will be but they suggest that as the time draws closer, we will start having more natural disasters. I.e. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and the heating of the earth. These natural disasters are believed to start increasing in frequency and intensity. It is said that we may witness unbelievable solar flares, unexpected meteor showers, and one or more geographical polar shifts. Subsequently, unexpected celestial objects may pass through the solar system as they to are influenced by the gravitational plain. “Are you aware that a Shift in human consciousness is occurring even as you read these words that employs celestial triggers such as supernovas and Earth’s alignment with Galactic Center in the years leading up to 2012 to trigger the evolution of our species?” (Sol Luckman). Since a geographical pole shift would most likely result in a prominent change of the earths axis, the effects would also have immediate implications on global climate, causing new weather patterns and regional temperature changes. This being said, places that were once deserts might be plush and filled with green, or valleys and forests may now be frozen wastelands. Sciences have recently discovered petrified forests under sheets of ice, could this be an indication of past life forests? Scientists have recorded the rapid melting of glaciers around the world. The weight of water is increasing at unbearable speeds. With this happening, long held suppressed earthquakes will be released, pressure will be put on the tectonic plates that lie underneath the oceans floor, this could lead to huge earthquakes, massive tsunamis, and the eruption of large volcanoes. If the Antarctic Ice Sheet were to collapse, it would submerge Washington D.C. completely under water.
The earth is moving across the equator of the milky way, this will cause astronomical changes. The center of our Milky Way galaxy is a very powerful source of magnetic energy. “On December 21st in the year 2012, we have a straight shot—a linear shot, unobstructed by any other planets or any other bodies in the solar system--where we have direct access to that field of energy” (Gregg Braden). There is no scientific evidence to support the theory that this will cause a shift in the poles, which would cause three days of darkness. The poles have shifted 14 times in the last 4-½ million years. In order for a polar shift to happen a certain weakness of magnetic field strength is required, though the earth has experienced a decrease in this, it is no where near close enough for a polar shift to occur. Earth has gone through a big change already, however, this does not mean something is going wrong. The world as we know it is changing drastically day by day. Therefore, to a large extent, we are already experiencing the great changes that so many have predicted. We are seeing cities being swept off the Earth when they lie near coastlines. We are already seeing earthquakes and tsunamis of great magnitude. We are already seeing forest fires that are ranging across vast, open spaces. We are seeing millions of people suffer greatly from disease. The United States does not have these problems as bad as the rest of the world but with the constant change it can happen anywhere. “When the world began to change, civilizations of the past didn’t understand the change. They began to fight one another for the resources. In that violent competition for what was left when the world was changing, everyone lost. Nobody won. The civilizations collapsed. For example, Egypt’s 20th dynasty absolutely collapsed during precisely this period of time and no one even knew about them until thousands of years later. We are at a point right now where we must choose to work together for this brief period of time to bring ourselves through this time of change. If we make the mistakes of the past and everyone loses” (Gregg Braden).
There are other theories to why our earth could end. It could be slowly deteriorating due to the human races, carelessness and recklessness, and the thought of nothing but a world where everything is perfect to make the human race happy. The things that we do as a whole is killing our planet slowly. Nuclear testing is believed to be tearing holes in the earths atmosphere, as well as some of the everyday objects we use. The burning of gas is very harmful to the earth. Pollution increases with the increase of population in big cities. Trees are being cut down all around us. Oil is being carelessly pumped out of the ground day in and day out. All of this could be one of many reasons that the earth will see problems in the near future. The only good thing about this, is that we as a whole can do something to stop it. There are many “Go green” programs which are trying to better the earth and all its inhabitants, solar energy is become more and more in use, and they are creating cars which don’t run on gas.
With all this evidence that goes with the theory, why do people still believe that this won’t happen? Well this answer is very simple. People don’t want to believe it, are they right? They are very right indeed, a lot of the hype about “2012” is for the sales of merchandise. Think about this fact, people fear the end, they see products that revolve around 2012, and they buy them. Hollywood is producing more and more movies that revolve around the end of the world. They range from different view points. On one side we have the movie “Knowing” a movie that ties fiction to studies. The fiction part sticks out very well, but there are some parts in this movie that go along with the studies of scientists, and the beliefs of the Mayan, Incan, and Egyptian cultures. There are also movies that support the more scientific outlook on 2012, a well known movie is “2012”. Movies like this scare people more than actual horror films, why? Because this could actually happen.
Another theory pertaining to “Doomsday” in 2012 that is a big controversial issue is the polar shift. This does not mean the North and South poles will switch, exactly. It is really called the geomagnetic reversal. This shift is thought to cause a lot of catastrophic events, or in other words, natural disasters. Another theory had by scientists about this “polar shift” is that it will change the Earths magnetic field, this has happened many times in earths history, but the last time it occurred was some 780, 000 years ago. So what is the affect of this change? Well, there are many that have been predicted, all compasses, GPS’s, and even satellites will be affected. Migratory animals will get confused and not know where to go, they will get lost. This change could cause the explosion of nuclear weaponry. There will be no technology, confused animals and nuclear weapons blowing up everywhere, it is thought to be complete and total chaos.

After researching all of this information, my outlook has changed a hundred percent. When I started writing this paper I didn’t really believe in the 2012 rumors. After reading all of the information I see a lot of possibilities. I think that we will experience great change on December 21, 2012, however, I do not believe that it will be the end of the world. I think that this time will indeed be the end of one time and the beginning of another. A lot of this topic cannot be proven because we as people cannot predict the future. We can simply just go by what has happened in the past. I think that we can overcome any obstacle put in our way and when it comes down to it I believe that the human race will indeed survive whatever is thrown at us. The Mayans predicted many events to happen on this day, but bare in mind, back then they had little technology, they had a less of a chance of surviving natural disasters. We however, are swarming with new technological devices everyday. I think that because of this we will survive. The opinion is up to the reader, you will always have the believers and the nonbelievers but as I always say, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

The biggest controversy about Nostradamus or any other people that make predictions of the future, is that they are always vague to a point, but with luck and accuracy. He has made tons of predictions that have not come true... And your example on the September 11th attack could be taken in many different ways. For one, he said that it was the "third big war." That is in no way accurate. One would take that to be the third world war, which he have not had yet. And if you just want to go off of scale, then what about Vietnam?

The thing is, predictions are never truly proved... They are stretched and read way too much into detail, and then people say "Oh, well this guy was right forever ago!!" There have been just as many studies with people making a silly prediction that sounded clear but had some vague key points, and could be read later on to be "true."

If you want to look at it from a christian point of view, God says in the bible no one will ever know when the world will end only he. So when everyone says that the world will end this date and so on it most likely isn't going to happen

deathrow and phenom, you two have hit on a point that has plagued our country for a long time. In all actuality the Vietnam war was not a "Declared War" by congress, it was technically considered to be an "Authorized Miltary Engagement". However, an "AME" is an informal declaration of war.

If you ask any true American, I am one, Vietnam was a War but was not in Congres' word.

also, Missy, I have been kinda going around the 2012 route of investigations but i have been branched off in finding Atlantis. Some of my research has lead me to believe that the last time any of this happened it was 10,600 years ago and found that it seems Atlantis was lost because of it. I think i have found the heart of Atlantis at the canary islands. What is funny is I found that Stonehenge, Lake Tittaca (in South america, very important lake, do some history research on it and its civilization), the Sun temple of Karnak (also known as the Temple of Ammun Ra), and the Temple of Chichen Itza are all equal distance from the carnary islands. I dont think its a coincidence, I think people of our pasts are trying to warn us. Do i think its going to be the end of the earth, NO, do i think we are going to see weather, earthquakes, etc increase yes, due to axial tilt, global alignment, etc. We will see starting the end of this year all the way up to dec 21 2012, a build up in global weather activity. After 2012 we will see the weather start to build down over a two year period. MARK MY WORDS!!!!
