I know this may not be the correct category, but it seems a lot more people talk in the general public chat section and I'm looking for some people interested in Doom3. 50 calibre will be hosting a Doom3 tournament for a cash prize. We don't know how much yet, but if people were to pay an entry fee.... the prize would go up to an amount that may be worth someones time to put in an honest effort in to play in the event.

What is everyones opinion and what would be a reasonable payment method/way to set that up? Its my idea and I've never attempted to host a tournament before. I would love your guys input, thanks.

Kev

Oh, Thump4 will be making a comeback to Doom3 for this tournament :)

I would suggest paypal for payment. Set it up for donations. The scripts are pretty easy to set up a donation button.

Im not really sure it matters too much. Allot of the people around that play allot of doom cant put any money out for stuff like that. If I would have to pick an amount I would say $5, around the price of a combo meal. Like wog said about the paypal that would be a good idea. Everybody could send the money to me. Yeah to me haha.

5 sounds good. PayPal is very good, and unless you had minors, with no access, shouldn't be a prob. Alternate methods could be considered, but you should almost prepeare to have ONE person, handling the cash flow, for sanity.

I dont think Price is really that BIG of an issue. People just love to come and get their names out and play and hang with people in the Tournament.
Now what would the cash entry fee be getting me other then a slot in the tourney? How many times or levels can i compete in? Is it a one shot go? and how far must i rank to actually get a prize?

Paypal wold be easy and more reliable, also people would be more lilely to sign up, because its soo easy to do any you dont have to worry about credit/debit cards, nor cash no getting to where it must or being lost.

First and formost it really depends on the advertiseing that you are gonna try and do for this tourn... I truly believe that if you are to advert this correctly and I believe that .50 calibre and eXg. both working together on this would have the market to not only advert to, and get players for the tourn. but also help what was talked about in .50 merger discussions... the idea of Doom3 coming back to life..

Second.. I have gone over this idea numerous times, countless as a matter of fact with Pun1sher to host a tourn like this, cash prize, and or somthing that would be worth the time and effort to put back in doom3 to win something like this.So in that respect.. I believe $10.00 would be appropriate.. if you charge $5.00 its okay and everyone can get in, however. does that really exemplify a true tourn... every other tourn that I have come to see registration charges are like $35.00 or $15.00 - $20.00 so I would have to say at least $10.00 I mean if you have the time to prepare for the tourn.. I 'm sure you have time to come up with $10.00.

Third.. Mods... From what I have seen, what mod are you planning on useing.. I"m assuming. EMZ.. This would only make sense to myself, and if need be get in touch with sim or we can do it, and we can get tourn screen shots for maps up and whatever would be needed to further prepare and advertiase for this. Like I have said before I have put mucho thought into the whole process, and discussed it over with Pun 10 thousand times over.

Fourth... what is the time frame you are looking to host such a tourn... so players have an idea of how long they have to prepare for such an event... For players like myself I have been putting many hours in Quake 3 for 2007 cpl and cpm tournaments. so this would need to be adressed so I could put that training on hold.

Fifth...Is this going to be an online tourney...??? if so what servers you going to use.. and if so after this online tuorney??? then wht.. will there be a lan somewhere set up for finals... if there is enough interest for a final tourney... or will this be it online.. ???I guess that depends on interest.

Last but not least. Maps. Ussually in every major tourn there are about 5 maps that are used for tournament play and whichi would we choose.. also there are stock maps and swelt.. now I also know that on each sides of the spectrum there are TOURNAMENT VERSIONS of these maps to give them a more balanced feel for tourney. so it wouldn't be like first Qcon with D3. Pm me and I can send you a few to try out..

oh GL AND HF to Thump4 on your return to D3. especially if you play ur bro hehe hes getting good. oh... and me on the Chamber. :)

once again I just wanted to throw my opinion in the mix for this... If you wanna have a REAL tourn for D3, and you give the option of "Donation" to enter the tourn then basically don't expect any entry fees coming in... I'm speaking like a consumer here on this one... If you go to the store and there is a product that yuo have wanted for a long time and there are two copys in the store.. a Free copy , and a second copy that is full price. which do you think you will take. ?? I take the free one anyday.. Now I know that I personally know who eXg. is and some people would pay and give donations for this... I also to a certain extent feel that we need to keep people interested in D3 and not push them away.. so 1st. u have a tourn, that has an entry fee. its not only enticing cause it looks like a real tourn, but functions like one.... 2nd. the people that are interested will nto be pushed away.. these are the people that have been watning a tourn soo bad that they would EVEN PAY to have one... and 3rd. If you own a computer that can Run Doom3 than I know u have $10.00 to play in a tourn.

i'm not gonna play, but i suggest over 10$. i'd say allocate the funds appropriately, for example: 20$ fee total, 10$ to prize pool, 5$ advertising (bring a new crowd in - try to attract more players), and 5$ to pun because he'll most likely throw the entire thing together. and sab, the only reason why you're not going to throw money in is because you'll lose.

what do you mean im not going to throw money in? I said i would pay any of the prices, and its not that big of an issue. If People REALLY wanted to be in the tourney they would pay.
All clear on that? :?

Ok, I think we are looking at October 20th. The advertising will begin to spark some interest in people. I myself will be throwing down like 100 bills just to make the prize pool go up a little. Depending on the amount of players would really decide the payout Sabooya. Say 50 people play, thats going to be like 750 (including entry fees and whatever anyone else throws in) or so to the top 3 or 8 depending on what we decide. 500-750 dollars isnt very significant to payout to 8 people, so its going to probably be top 3. Servers will be any online server that is available and based on average pings for each player. Some people work / some people have school, so the tournament will be online. A lan isn't going to happen because the payout isn't enough.

Everyone should start spreading the word via word-of-mouth for now until any articles go out. It will be an America based event, so Europeans can play, but only in American servers vs other Americans. If a Euro plays vs another Euro, then it would be ok to play a match in Europe. After some conversations with some duelers, Edge at quakecon turned out to be a crappy map pick due to its size and refill capabilities (health and armor everywhere). So its being decided that Frag Chamber is a definate, Phrantic 2 will qualify, and 1 or 2 maps are still being decided upon. News will come after we start talking to more people.
